Eating vegetables is
a wise thing to do. Eating them all year long is even wiser. If you live in a
climate zone where growing season doesn’t last long, then you may want to
consider a backup option. By that I mean planting baby greens such as fennel
micro greens, for example. And where could you find more stable conditions for
doing so than in your own home? So, get yourself ready to check out these 4
awesome tips for planting baby fennel indoors.
Planting Fennel by Seed is the Easiest Option You Got
1. Find a Home for Your Baby Fennel
This is a starting point for indoor
growing. I prepare a pot or a container in advance and fill it with organic
potting mix. Once I finish preparing the soil, I moisten the mix and sprinkle a
generous amount of fresh & natural fennel seeds over the soil surface.
2. Make Sure It Gets Enough Sunlight
Remember that fennel is native to
the Mediterranean region. That means it loves sun. Thus, after covering the
seeds with a thin layer of soil, I go to a sunny windowsill or a south-facing
balcony and leave my baby fennel over there to enjoy the sun.
3. Water It Regularly
If you read my gardening tutorial on the topic of
avoiding over watering, then you can rest assured that your indoor
plants will not sing “Under the sea” song from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
If you’re still not sure, this is
how I do it - I use a spray bottle and simply mist the soil. Once my fennel
seeds become visible as sprouts, I use bottom-watering and let them absorb
moisture through the drainage holes.
4. Get Ready for Harvest
This is when you get rewarded for
your “trouble”. After two weeks, give or take a day or two, I use sharp kitchen
scissors to harvest my fennel baby greens.
