How to Identify GMO Products in Stores

People crave many things, but health and happiness above all. For all of you who would like to live a healthier and happier life, here are a few useful tips that will help you identify GMO products in stores:

Try to find fruits and vegetables that don’t all look like identical twins. GMO food is always aesthetically appealing. This kind of food looks nicer, rounder, brighter, is uniform in size and appearance, has no bruises and abrasions, nor traces of rotting or scars.
Look for those little stickers on fruits and veggies called PLU (Price Look-Up) codes. If there’s a four-digit code beginning with a 3 or 4, it means that the product is not GMO, but originated on a farm that uses chemicals and pesticides which are also toxic and dangerous for the human body. A five-digit code that starts with a 9 means that the product is organic, grown without chemicals, pesticides or genetic modification. In that case, you are looking at the pure product of nature. The products, however, marked with a five-digit number starting with a number 8 are GMO crops, which are unnaturally grown, with the help of genetic modification.

How to Identify GMO Products in Stores

GMO products are widespread and mostly unlabelled. And because PLU codes aren’t mandatory, companies can label those items as conventional. Of course, you realize that this is exactly why GMO foods should be labeled.

Be aware of the nice packaging. The profitability of growing GMO plants, fruits and vegetables allow their manufacturers to invest more money into attractive packaging. You will find that the GMO food is quite cheap, but always luxuriously packaged. Doesn’t this look odd to you?

Think twice when you come across a particular piece of fruit or vegetables which are not in season. It is likely that the product is imported or developed in nurseries, so there are high chances that it was made from GMOs.

If a food comes from a country that has introduced GMO, then it probably is GMO. Want a piece of advice? Avoid a GMO headache and simply get organic foods from a source you can trust.

The laws of nature are extremely interesting. Organic vegetables and fruits reveal various signs that will help you detect GMO products. For example, if you slightly bump a tomato that seems too perfect, and if doesn’t experience bruising, chances are slim that it is not GMO. However, we wouldn’t advise you to go around stores and fight with tomatoes just to check which one is a GMO. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to buy not-the-same-looking fruits and veggies, and stay away from Victoria Angel’s look-alike foods. The natural ones will be just as delicious and very healthy. Buying fruits and vegetables from farmers who grow their own products is your best solution.
