3 Best Companions for Basil Plants

If you’ve read my post on how to keep yourbasil safe from diseases and have additional questions about growing basil then this post might provide some useful, extra answers. I guess you’ve heard of companion plants, right? If not, you should know that companion plants basically refer to plants that help other plants to grow. Keep on reading to find out more about 3 best companion plants for basil.

1. Chamomile

Basil is believed to be much more useful as a companion plant to other plants than it can get in return for its kind services. One of the plants that is said to be a true friend to basil is chamomile. Chamomile allegedly increases the level of essential oils in herbs like basil.

2. Anise

When intercropped with basil, anise makes the same contribution as chamomile. Anise reportedly helps basil to enlarge its essential oil reserves. I deliberately wrote reportedly because some gardeners say anise helps basil and some say the opposite. I haven’t tried it myself but perhaps you can try planting a single pair of plants together and see how it works.

3. Tomato

Although most gardeners agree that tomatoes benefit more from a friendship with basil, I came across examples where both plants seem to benefit from the pairing. According to some gardener’s statements basil also shows signs of enthusiastic behavior when intercropped with sweet peppers.

Give it a shot with these 3 basil companions and let me know your first impressions.
